Weekending- Gnomes of the Week

And during the week, I made gnomes- oh those gnomes!!

Every weekend I list up the gnomes that were made during the living that took place that week. Here are the newest gnomes of this crazy and enlivening daily practice. Their dates of creation and any personal tidbits are located below each photo......

This fellow seems particularly cheerful and ready for adventure- it seems fitting since he is, after all, a New Year's Day gnome..... (created on January 1, 2016)

I felt the need (no pun intended!!) to do something soft and small and along came this tiny gnomeling. Such a sweet and gentle, giggly soul she is! Surely a bringer of joy! (This gnomeling was created January 2, 2016)

This fellow is a big fan of sledding and wakes up every morning ready to get started- such energy! Such enthusiasm!
(This gnome was created on January 3, 2016)

This gnome is a weaver and she loves nothing more than bringing color and patterns together with her loom and her clever hands.... Such magic!
(This gnome was created on January 4, 2016)

As you may guess, I have become extremely fond of a gnomeling in a pointy hat. This little one loves singing and has such a keen ear for a tune!
(This gnomeling was created on January 6, 2016)

This fellow is quite knowledgeable on many, many subjects and enjoys nothing more than an animated, intelligent conversation with another being...
(This gnome was created on January 7, 2016)

Yes, you may have noticed there is a gnome missing- for Tuesday.
I actually can't believe it! I forgot! I did and I only realized it when I woke up on Wednesday morning. I had had a wonderful afternoon felting with students at a school on Tuesday and came home a little tired. Perhaps my brain equated the felting class with actually felting but somehow, my brain let it go. I still can't believe that I did that but, this is one of the lessons we learn with a daily practice: forgiveness. It is important to understand and embrace our fallibility and know that that are mistakes don't define who we are, they help us learn and grow and evolve.....

There Be Changes Here- Coming 2016!!

You may have been wondering what on earth is going on with this gnomey blog.

I would like to be updating it regularly but with some unexpected adjustments in our home and on the family front, I have let go of that updating piece of bloggy-goodness and I've been sticking to tending the growing needs of my sweet kiddos, the animals, making art and creating those daily gnomes that keep me sane.

There are changes coming to the blog- they won't be too overwhelming (I hope) but I have long had a hankering for a new approach to the blogging piece; a new way of going through this blogging experience.

If you want to keep track of daily gnomes, I often post them on Instagram which you can either follow me on by clicking here OR you can visit me here on the blog and look at the recent photos that scroll by on the right in my Instagram feed. There is also the option of visiting my website www.themoongoat.com where you can also see my gallery and check out recent Instagram-ed gnomes.

I know, that isn't quite as rockin' as sitting down and creating a blog post with clearer, higher quality photos and a little bit about that particular gnome. But I have had to make some time choices and the daily gnome (of course) had to stay in tact while I had to make a choice about the blogging. That said-- I have something in the works for a new (and improved?) blog in 2016. I'll announce it once I've got things up and running.

In the meantime, you can always email or peruse the archives of gnomes, knowing that everyday (well, pretty much) I sit down and make that daily gnome to lift me up, settle my soul and keep my rhythm.......

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 287 & Her Family

The final custom gnome was a gnomeling- a sweet baby girl (I think) with purple hair. She giggles and emanates joy- how can she not with so much joy from her parents wrapped around her?

This gnomeling was made on October 15th, 2015

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 286

Another special custom order for that special birthday girl. She had such a specific list of colors for her gnomes and not just the one gnome- there was a list.
This girl is a fire cracker and quite ready for adventures whenever they may arise. She loves hiking and sailing and kayaking and rock climbing and new places and new flavors and new people. Such a wild open heart!

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 285 (a no show)

Yes, another no-show. This time was just too exhausted after a day that was far too long and after driven for so many hours to get to all the places I needed to be. So, I chose sleep- sweet, sacred, precious sleep....

There was no gnome for October 13th, 2015

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 284

This is a special birthday gnome for a special birthday girl. She asked for a series of gnomes and along they came.
This magical girl is quite adept at concocting magic and bringing joy into her own and other people's lives....

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 283

This gnome is quite a scholar. She loves to learn new things and read every book she can get her hands on. Oh yes, the pursuit of knowledge is something she takes very seriously....

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 282 (a no show)

There's always a moment of panic when I realize that my arm is sore. This was one of those days and I decided to let my arms rest and repair. There is a lot of felting in the works and it just won't do for me to hurt myself and end up unable to felt. So this was an arm-health day....

There is no gnome for October 9th, 2015

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 281

Somehow this fellow feels particularly active and athletic. He loves to play acorn soccer and do cartwheels and climb rocks and, on some occasions, he will race a squirrel....

This gnome was made on October 8th.......

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 279 & Day 280

I sat down and made the grandfather gnome on Day 279 not realizing at the time that he was, in fact, a grandfather but then Day 280 rolled around and I realized that he was and along came this sweet grand baby.
They like taking long strolls by the sea and speaking to the gulls. Sometimes, when they are very still and quiet, the fish whisper stories to them through the crash of the waves on rocks and shore.....

This gnome and gnomeling were made on October 6th & 7th.......

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 278

There is something particularly genial about this fellow. He's the kind of gnome that always says "Hello" cheerily and smiles at you. He also tends to take extremely long walks (with and without a walking stick) which means he gets to shower many different beings with his sweet nature.....

For Instant Gnome Notifications & More Check Instagram

I admit it, I have a growing fondness for Instagram....
With the help of the handy-dandy smartphone my son insisted I have, I can more quickly post pictures of gnomes (usually within moments of creating one). So, if you are curious about what sort of images & adventures cross my path during the days and what a gnome fresh from the felting pad looks like, you can check back here to see my Instagram feed (on the right of this page) or follow me on Instagram jessicapeillmeininghaus

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 277

This fellow is one of those pesky and- quite good natured- apple gnomes! He loves a good apple party with a cider press and apple pies and apple bobbing. He's known for holding such parties at his house as often as possible in the autumn.

This gnome was made on October 4th, 2015

2015 A Gnome A Day - Day 276

This little gnome is quite a sweetie- he actually loves sweets themselves (perhaps that adds to his sweetness?)- apple pie, donuts, cookies, cupcakes- any sweets fall under the umbrella of his favorites.
He is quite a giggler and oh so jolly!

2015 Gnomes of the Day

I can't seem to get things going. Wait- that certainly isn't phrased correctly! I can't seem to get my butt in gear with my camera and track the gnomes. These gnomes that are continuing to keep me sane as things pick up speed and we head back into homeschooling and events and schedules. Time seems a little less fluid and the daylight fades much quicker making me feel that there is a little less time in a day.

But I am making these gnomes every day and they are keeping me happy and sane in moments when I feel overwhelmed or sad or full of anxiety about what might or might not be next. There is so much to hold sometimes and our lives change like seasons.

Now, things are beginning to settle and gnomes are made daily (and are too often lost and put aside and confused with other gnomes as they giggle and set up shop together all over the studio and house).

I love these gnomes.
They truly do change my days.
They change me and they make me still my soul and breathe for that daily moment of creation and sacred space.

Thank you hands.
Thank you wool (and sheep!).
Thank you heart.
Thank you felting needles.
Thank you gnomes!

Felting Classes at Common Street Arts

I am really excited to be working with Common Street Arts in Waterville, Maine and have a class and a felting course starting very soon!

One is a 2 hour class on needle felting a greeting card (so much fun!) and the other is a 7 week course where we will be creating felted pictures. We're going to play with adding different elements in there and adding layers of wool for a variety of effects. It's going to be fun!

The Felted Card Making Class will take place on September 24th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm

The Felted Pictures Course will take place on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 5:00pm starting on October 7th. Please contact Common Street Arts to sign up!
